( EXCISE No. 39 )
Founded and run by Robert Hughes from about 1853 until late 1855 or early 1856. On 17 December 1855 the "Manchester Guardian" advised the public that Robert Hughes had assigned all his real and personal estate to his creditors. This was followed on 26 December 1855 by an auction notice for all the machinery and stock at the mill.
Following his bankruptcy in 1856 the mill was taken over by James R. Crompton. Following his death in 1874 the mill was run by members of his family.
In 1860 this mill was reportedly producing "printings, tissues, and copyings."
On 3 October 1974 the "Manchester Guardian" reported plans to open a mill in Australia though this never eventuated.
