The mill was then run by Joseph Hughes in partnership with Joseph Barnes and James Broadbent Ingham as "Hughes, Barnes and Ingham" from c1838 to 24 June 1849 and then by Joseph Hughes as "Joseph Hughes & Sons" from 1849 till his death in 1859. His four eldest sons then carried on the business under the same name until 6 June 1868 when one son, John Grime Hughes, withdrew from the partnership. The remaining three sons continued the business under the same name until selling it in 1869.

In 1860 this mill was reportedly producing "newspaper, fine caps, small hands, grey, drab, blue and white cartridges - middles, hatter's, printings, and fancy colours." They had an office at 77A Market Street, Manchester, Lancashire. The mill apparently had a second registration as Excise No. 471. The mill was put up for auction in 1869 and passed to the Slack family.
