BARNES, Joseph (c1809-1892)

Born c1809 at Chinley, Derbyshire, England, and baptised on 26 April 1815 at the Independent Chapel, Chinley, Derbyshire, the son of Joseph Barnes and his wife Hannah. He married on 30 September 1833 at the Bolton Parish Church, Lancashire, to Martha Hughes, daughter of Daniel Hughes, paper maker, and his wife Martha, nee Walker. Partner with Joseph Hughes and James Broadbent Ingham at the White Hall Paper Mill from c1838 to c1848. He was then a farmer till his death. Died on 5 September 1892 at his residence, "Daisy Bank", Bugsworth, Derbyshire, England. Buried on 9 September 1892 in the churchyard of St. Thomas A'Beckett Church of England, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire, England.

BOOTH, John (17??-c1823)

Said to have founded the White Hall Paper Mill c1781 and run it until it was sold to John Ibbotson in 1822. Possibly married on 24 March 1799 at Prestbury, Cheshire, England to Hannah Filcock, daughter of Peter Filcock, farmer. Died c1823, probably at Chinley, Derbyshire, England.

HUGHES, Joseph (1794-1859)

Born on 2 April 1794 at Little Lever, Lancashire, England, and baptised on 11 May 1794 at St. Matthew's Church of England, Little Lever, Lancashire the son of Daniel Hughes, paper maker, and his wife Martha, nee Walker. He married firstly on 22 November 1821 at the Bolton Parish Church, Lancashire, England to Mary Grime, daughter of John Grime, and his wife Mary. He married secondly on 27 April 1853 at the Eccles Parish Church, Lancashire, to Elizabeth Balshaw, daughter of William Balshaw and his wife Mary, nee Higson. Joseph was in partnership with Joseph Goodwin as cotton spinners at Rose Hill, Bolton, Lancashire from c1824 to c1838. He was then in partnership with Joseph Barnes and James Broadbent Ingham at the White Hall Paper Mill, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire from c1838 to 1849. From 1849 till his death he continued to run White Hall Paper Mill with his sons. Died on 25 February 1859 at his residence, "White Hall", Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire, England. Buried on 3 March 1859 in the churchyard of St. Thomas A'Beckett Church of England, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire, England.

IBBOTSON, John (c1791-1838)

Born c1791, probably at Manchester, Lancashire, England, the son of John Ibbotson and his wife Susannah, nee Bramwell/Bradwell. He married on 20 September 1819 at Taxal, Cheshire, England, to Mary Bramley/Bromley of Whaley. Paper manufacturer. At Primrose Valley Mill from 1816. Later at White Hall Paper Mill till his death in 1838. Died on 29 January 1838 at his residence, "White Hall", Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire, England. Buried on 3 February 1838 in the churchyard of St. Thomas A'Beckett Church of England, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire, England.

INGHAM, James Broadbent (c1815-1888)

Born c1815 and baptised on 6 April 1815 at Bradford, Yorkshire, England, the son of Timothy James Ingham and his wife Rachel, nee Broadbent. In business with his brother Samuel and Henry Brown as drapers at Bradford, Yorkshire until the partnership was dissolved in May 1839. He married on 2 April 1841 at Mosley Chapel, Manchester, Lancashire, England, to Jane Muff, the daughter of William Muff. Partner with Joseph Hughes and Joseph Barnes at the White Hall Paper Mill, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire from c1838 to c1848. He was then in partnership with his brother, Samuel Broadbent Ingham at the Shuttleworth Paper Mill, Lancashire from c1848. About 1857 he built the Holcombe Paper Mill at Ramsbottom (Excise No. 73) which traded under the name of J. B. Ingham & Son. This mill was sold in 1872. Died on 21 March 1888 at 5 Bridge Grove, Southport, Lancashire. Buried on 24 March 1888 at Park Chapel, Walmersley, Lancashire, England.

SLACK, Albert (c1843-1901)

Born c1843 in Hayfield, Derbyshire, England, the son of John Slack and his wife Mary, nee Copeland. Married in 1868 in Cheshire, England to Mary Jane Bennett. Lived at "The Oaklands", West End, Hayfield, Derbyshire, England. Died 1901 in Derbyshire, England.

SLACK, Christopher (c1841-1905)

Born c1841 in Glossop, Derbyshire, England, the son of Robert Slack and his wife Eliza. Married 1873 in Yorkshire, England to Mary Jane Drinkwater, daughter of William Drinkwater and his wife Catherine, nee Carrington. Lived at Bank Vale, Hayfield, Derbyshire, England. Died on 6 August 1905 at Southport, Lancashire, England.

SLACK, John (1813-1892)

Born on 4 April 1813 at Hayfield, Derbyshire, England and baptised on 4 April 1834 the second son of Robert Slack, papermaker and tanner, and his wife Nancy, nee Ibbotson. He married firstly on 5 August 1840 in Derbyshire, England Mary Copeland of London, England. He married secondly in 1872 a Mary Wyld Ardern. Purchased the White Hall Paper Mills about 1869 and in 1879 took into partnership his son, Albert Slack and his nephew, Christopher Slack. Died on 15 December 1892 at the Burlington Hotel, Hall Bank, Buxton, Derbyshire, England.
